The RCMP Trans-Canada East Traffic Services (TCETS) has confirmed that the MVI that shut down the Trans-Canada Highway overnight on Tuesday involved a fatality.
Spokesperson Sgt. Rob Haney said the incident happened at about 8 p.m. on Sept. 11 at a location about 12 kilometres west of Revelstoke.
An eastbound GMC Sierra truck driven by a 30-year-old man from Maple Ridge collided with an empty westbound Mack tractor-trailer B train truck.
The man driving the GMC pickup was pronounced dead at the scene. The 40-year-old male driver of the Mack commercial truck was not injured.
The collision led to an eight-hour closure of the highway.
“Members of the TCETS unit continue to investigate the cause of this collision and are assisting the B.C. Coroners Service,” said Sgt. Haney in a statement. “There is no other information available at this time.”
