RCMP in Vanderhoof have arrested a man in a pickup truck who they say targeted the Vanderhoof RCMP detachment with a long gun just after noon on Nov. 25.
“At 12:16 pm the Vanderhoof RCMP responded to reports of an active shooter with a long gun targeting the RCMP Detachment in the 100 Block of Columbia Street and then continuing to drive around the area,” B.C. RCMP said in a statement.
The man was described as solo and driving a white Ford pickup with an extended cab. They warned residents to not approach him.
“The individual should be considered armed and dangerous. If you see the suspect or the vehicle DO NOT APPROACH. Call 9-1-1 immediately,” RCMP said in a statement. “Frontline officers, as well as specialized units have been deployed and are responding to the incident. The public is asked to not post any photos or videos that disclose police locations or tactics.”
Police used a mobile phone “localized police emergency alert” system to notify the public.
RCMP later issued another alert notifying the suspect had been taken into custody.
