The first edition of the Revelstoke Mountaineer Magazine is out, featuring a stylish couple lounging at the Main Street Cafe on one overcast Revelstoke day.
The Mountaineer’s fashion shoots, shot by Sarah Mickel Photography, shows off Revelstoke culture, our local retailers and the beautiful surroundings that we get to call home.
Photographer Sarah Mickel said Revelstoke has a lot to offer in apparel.
“Revelstoke has style and whether you are looking for active wear, business casual or formal wear you can find it here,” she said.
About the shoot
Recent renovations at Main Street Cafe made this stunning breakfast and lunch nook the perfect backdrop to the cafe date theme. It was a great hideaway from the dim weather on the day, and its sleek and cosy fittings complemented the photos.
“We have a lot of fun shooting and the results are amazing,” Mickel said. “The best part of all of this is that you can create a trendy city feel right here in little Revelstoke.”
For the shoot, we used local model Mandy Malinski, who recently was honoured in being selected as one of 15 finalists in the ELLE Canada model search.
She stole the show with her ease and experience and was the perfect companion for first-time model Jake Philpott, who was wrangled into the shoot as the male offsider.
Birch and Lace hair artist Alyssa Sanderson did hair for the models. She created Philpott’s sleek but comfortably modern style, which he raved was “the best haircut” he’s ever had.
For Malinski, the bun on top with curly hair cascading free, was reminiscent of a modern day genie, and made the main image for the shoot.
Currently, work for the June issue is underway.
“It’s no easy task putting things together,” Mickel said. “After deciding on a theme, we spend half a day scouting new looks in Revelstoke shops. Next we decide on who will be modeling for us. Models come from just about anywhere but if they are local and enthusiastic we love that too.
“Hair and make-up artists are booked and we all come together with the look and feel of what we are about to shoot.”
Models volunteer for the shoot and receive the free styling and photo session in exchange. The shoot is also a chance for local hair stylists and make-up artists to show off their skills.
