One person is dead following an MVI west of Revelstoke on the Trans-Canada Highway on the evening of Tuesday, Feb. 6.
RCMP Staff-Sgt. Kurt Grabinsky said local police got the call at about 8 p.m. Two transport trucks had collided 25 kilometres west of Revelstoke, killing one of the drivers and injuring the other. The survivor was treated and transported to Queen Victoria Hospital in Revelstoke.
The original collision, which occurred in snowy conditions, was followed by another an hour later at 9 p.m. when a tractor-trailer unit was unable to stop for vehicles backed up due to the original incident. That truck rear-ended another stopped transport truck, causing extensive damage.
Police, Revelstoke Fire Rescue Services, BC Ambulance and several fire trucks attended the scene.
The incident closed the Trans-Canada Highway for several hours overnight.
The RCMP continue to assist the BC Coroners Service with their investigation into the collision and the fatality.
The highway remains closed as of 7:15 a.m. but is scheduled to reopen at 8 a.m.
