Mount Cartier hikers and mountain bikers will be pleased with the announcement that a proper parking lot will be built at the trailhead.
Revelstoke Cycling Association president Keith McNab met with the manager of Emcon Services, a highway maintenance and paving company, and a representative from the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure, at the popular trailhead on Tuesday.
“Emcon Services, with the blessing of the MOFI, have offered to build a parking lot at the Mount Cartier trailhead for about 10 cars,” McNab said.
“They will be building the parking lot as a public service. It will be great that hikers and mountain bikers will have somewhere safely off the road to park when they use the trail.”
McNab indicated that Emcon will likely build the parking lot later this month and the trailhead parking will be closed for two days.
The company tries to do a public service job like this every year. Last year they built a parking area for climbers west of town by Victor Lake.
This news follows a recent application from the RCA to further develop the Mt Cartier trailhead in the future.
