Brief: 60 COVID-19 cases at Big White linked to shared housing, large households, and social gatherings

60 COVID-19 cases detected at Big White.

Interior Health is reporting 60 cases of COVID-19 at the Big White ski resort near Kelowna, attributing the cases to large shared households, shared housing, and social gatherings.

“This highlights the importance of limiting social activities and following COVID-19 protocols when indoors,” I said in a Dec. 15 statement.

IH says the risk is low for visitors to the resort, and that those identified with COVID-19 are isolating.

“Interior Health will monitor this cluster for additional cases and environmental public health has been in the community to review safety plans at a number of locations and provide guidance and support as required. We would also like to remind people to limit all non-essential travel,” IH said in a statement. “This means, sticking to your own communities and visiting your local ski hill only.”
