Sleepless nights with a colicky baby launched Alex Sosnkowski on her journey to health and wellness.
“My son was born this smiling, happy, baby. When he started nursing, suddenly he turned into a colicky, cranky baby, keeping us both up at night, all night. So I started researching colic and found that it’s most often caused by an allergy to something in the mother’s milk. In my case, it was the wheat, corn, oats and soy in my diet, which I removed one by one until all of his symptoms were gone.”
Couple that discovery with the removal of pop from her diet several years prior, and Alex started feeling better, having more energy, and even losing weight. Alex says her whole life and body really shifted in so many positive ways. The biggest shift for her, she says, was around her life-long struggle with her weight and body image. “I’m not perfect now, but I’m perfectly imperfect, and this new mindset has been really liberating.”
Today, Alex has taken her love for all things health and wellness to become a certified Holistic Health Coach and Auricular Energetics Specialist.
As a Holistic Health Coach, Alex coaches clients on their journeys to health and wellness, at whatever stage that might be.
“Many people know what they should and shouldn’t eat, that they should exercise, but they struggle with their health and wellness and don’t know where to start, or how to start. Sometimes people need help cleaning out their pantry and learning how to shop and cook. Sometimes people don’t even realize what they’re putting in their bodies and how harmful or self-sabotaging certain foods and ingredients can be. Sometimes people just need motivation and accountability. I can help with all of those things.”
Alex sees health coaching clients both in person here in town at the Feel Good Collective, or virtually over Skype or FaceTime from anywhere in the world. Through her web based business, Your Whole Health Solutions (yourwholehealthsolutions.com)
What makes Alex’s programs unique is that she doesn’t just focus on the food we put in our mouths, which she calls “secondary foods,” but a lot of focus and attention is given to “primary foods:” relationships, spirituality, movement/exercise, and career/purpose. Alex explains that if we have an imbalance in primary foods, we are likely to have an imbalance in secondary foods. She asks: “Have you ever noticed how some people with the worst diets might never be sick a day in their lives? That could very well be because all of their primary food needs are being met.”
Alex is here to help you achieve your health goals with an approach unlike you’ve probably heard of before. In the free consultation she offers, I was amazed to learn the connection of emotions to my eating habits, allowing me to easily find solutions I never would of thought of to improve my health. Meaning, you’re not doing your body any good suffering with your kale smoothies, so how can you find a balance of healthy eating, and feeding the soul? Alex can help you find that balance.—Anna M.
Another unique aspect of her approach is that she doesn’t prescribe a particular diet. “Diet should be based on the individual, not the theory,” she says. “One person’s food could be another person’s poison.” In other words, just because the Paleo or South Beach diets worked for some, they are not going to work for everyone.
Along with not prescribing a particular diet, Alex doesn’t tell clients they have to cut out their favorite unhealthy foods. Instead, Alex works with clients to find foods to add into the diet and crowd out the less healthy foods. She also helps clients “deconstruct cravings” by figuring out what a particular food might be substituting for in their lives—such as love, fun, or warmth.
Lastly, Alex emphasizes that her approach is really based on the idea that if given half the chance, the body will heal itself. “Look how we can recover from an injury or an illness; there’s no reason we can’t recover health and wellness the same way. A lot of what I do is listen and help clients see that they have the answers within them, that their bodies already know what they need to do. I just provide a safe place for them to be heard and lots of love and support.”
Alex’s other modality, Auricular Energetics, works as a stand alone or supportive treatment for clients. Auricular Energetics is based on Chinese Medicine, in particular using traditional acupuncture points on the ear, but there are no needles involved. Alex stimulates the appropriate points on the ear and then she tapes a small titanium bead to several points on the ear so that healing can continue after the session. “The results I get from Auricular Energetic treatments are amazing! And quick! I can treat just about anything—from weight loss, to diabetes, to asthma and allergies, and digestive disorders. I’ve even helped some riders recover from concussions they incurred when coming too close to trees while riding.”
